I've said before that I was an ultrarunner long before I knew running could be a sport. I discovered endurance without ever running a single mile.
My first experience with endurance came from working on my grandfather's coffee farm. It taught me about hard work, patience, and what it really takes to earn something with your own two hands. To this day, I have yet to find something harder than working on a coffee farm. Much respect to all the farmers.
Eventually, I took that same work ethic and brought it into ultrarunning.
Growing up, I watched my grandfather and other coffee farmers put in countless hours of hard labor, often without receiving the financial reward their work deserved. I always wanted to do something to contribute.
I became increasingly curious about coffee: the different processes at the farm, the green beans, roasting, and even the science behind brewing a great cup.
That curiosity eventually led me to start BORTIKA Coffee, a family-owned specialty coffee brand built around the coffee grown on my grandfather's high-altitude farm in Tarrazú, Costa Rica.
Today, we're sharing that coffee with people around the world.
You can find our roasted coffee beans at bortikacoffee.com :) enjoy!
